What should I do if I get sick with the flu this flu season, including the 2009 H1N1?
Don’t forget to put fresh linens on the bed and use a new toothbrush once you’re healthy. I suggest changing your pillowcase on a daily basis while sick. Remember, germs and virus’s can live on surfaces for 24hours. And after sneezing and coughing all night, it just more sanitary to put your head on a fresh pillowcase. |

· responding to health service request in a timely manner · making sure emergency contacts are current and up to date · making sure phone contacts are continuously up to date · making sure your children come to school after having breakfast · consult your child’s health care provider re: injuries that happen outside of school · reinforce good hygiene · if you have concerns about illness, contact your health care provider · give over-the-counter medications (if necessary) at home, before and after school If at school, your child is expected to participate in the entire school day. If they don’t feel well enough or are unsure they can make the whole day…..keep your child home. Students are not permitted to carry medications while in school. If a student must take medications while in school, a parent must send in the medication in the original container with the dosage and directions on the label. The same goes for a prescription medication. Students
will be sent home with a temperature of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit per
Department of Education. If your child has been ill over the weekend or the
day before, it’s best to keep them home until s/he is fever free for 24
hours. Use your judgment!! Communicable diseases can easily spread
throughout a school environment. Please look at the H1N1 website to gain
more current information about the swine flu or you can search for other
information as well. Orthopedic screening will begin for all students by October. This annual screening is done to identify orthopedic or postural defects as early as possible. Parents will be notified if any concerns are suspected after the first phase (phase I). If parents receive a referral letter for Phase II, that particular student will be seen by a Physical from AI DuPont Hospital at no additional cost. The Physical Therapist will then determine if your child should be closely followed yearly or if your child needs additional studies, or everything is “A okay”! Vision and hearing screenings will be conducted for all 7th graders also in October and November. Parents will be notified of any concerns and will receive a written referral for an Audiologist or Optometrist |
